SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) – Synopsis: Tom, better known as the In-and-Out Bandit, has stolen $9 million from a variety of banks in numerous towns. When he meets Annie, he decides to come clean and turn himself in. A dirty FBI agent makes that process more difficult than expected.

Review: Watching “Honest Thief,” I felt like the child in the back seat repeatedly asking, “Are we there yet?” Not because the film was particularly slow or inept, I was just excited to get to the point in the film where Liam Neeson gets to run around punching people.

Once upon a time Neeson wasn’t an action star. 2008’s “Taken” changed all of that. Now, a year doesn’t pass without a Neeson action film. I’ve watched them all. The stories are similar. Some are better than others.

In “Honest Thief” Neeson is Tom, a war vet, who returned from service disillusioned with life. His explosive skills opened a pathway to crime and more than a few bank vaults. He’s not a bad guy. He’s just raging against the system.

When he meets Annie (Kate Walsh) his cold heart is warmed. He looks at the emptiness of his life and decides that it is time to be honest. It might send him to prison, but he’s a man of newfound principle. So, he calls the FBI.

The FBI are convinced that he’s looney. Eventually, Tom’s claim is investigated by Agent Nivens (Jai Courtney) and Agent Hall (Anthony Ramos). Hall is a family man. Nivens isn’t. When the duo discover that Tom isn’t a lunatic, Nivens looks to score a couple million dollars for himself and Hall is essentially along for the ride.

Things get wild quickly and it builds to that point where Neeson gets to shoot guns and prove he’s not the man the outside world thinks he is.

Once “Honest Thief” chooses a direction, it’s not very difficult to figure out where the story is going to end. If a computer were to write a film based on Neeson’s previous action films it would look like this. Some thrills, no surprises. Are you not entertained?
