KABUL, Afghanistan (STORYFUL) -- Six-year-old Ahmad couldn’t help but dance when he received a new prosthetic leg at an International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) clinic in Kabul on May 4, his physiotherapist told Storyful.
Mulkara Rahimi, a physiotherapist at the ICRC, filmed the moment. She said Ahmad lost his leg when he was two years old as a result of the conflict between the Taliban and Afghan security forces.
There are at least 40,000 amputees in Afghanistan, according to the ICRC.
Ahmad received his prosthetic leg at an orthopedic ICRC clinic in Kabul which exclusively employs disabled people. Rahimi told Storyful that she is a member of the Afghan national women’s team for wheelchair basketball.
