PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (WPEC) -- Hurricane Dorian brought more than strong winds and rain to the Treasure Coast, it brought one family a bundle of joy.
Samuel Chin was born early Tuesday morning at 1:05 a.m. at St. Lucie Medical Center.
The hospital says Samuel is a healthy seven pounds, four ounces and 20 inches long, and his parents, Cecilia and Brian Chin, are thrilled.
"Sammy is very laid back," Cecilia Chin said. "He loves to snuggle."
While the parents knew their due date fell during Dorian's expected arrival, they hoped their baby could wait until conditions cleared.
Instead, Cecilia Chin started going into a labor during the height of the storm.
"I was a little bit worried about getting all of us together and out the door before the wind picked up anymore," she said.
While they probably could hear the howling winds from inside their hospital room, the only thing the Chins listened for were their baby's cries.
When asked if they considered naming him Dorian, Cecilia Chin laughed and said no -- it was always the plan to name their son Sammy.
But what wasn't their plan? Everything else about his arrival.
"He's been different the whole time," Cecilia Chin said. "A different pregnancy, topped off with a hurricane."
