A local business owner and Texas native plans to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey living in his hometown.
Frank Taylor, the owner of Sweet Jam, told KATU News he will give all the money raised on the opening day of his new Northeast Portland location to the people living in Dickinson, Texas.
The fundraiser will be on Sept. 14 at 5237 N.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
"What better way to open than to try to raise money," Taylor said.
Taylor told KATU News he grew up in the small Texas town between Galveston and Houston. The town is under mandatory evacuation orders.
Several days of rain have flooded streets and homes. Taylor said his brother was rescued from his Dickinson home by boat.
"No one really expected for Dickinson to get this much flooding. They said the hurricane would hit and you would get some rain, but no one expected this," he said.
Taylor expects many of the people in his hometown to lose their home.
"It's going to be many, many thousands of people that live in that city that's going to need help," he said.
