GRESHAM, Wis. (WLUK) -- Seeing a turtle cross the road is not uncommon in Wisconsin in the spring, but one WLUK viewer shared a story of a fall crossing for some little ones.
Mark Brunner sent his story to Chime In. He says he and his wife helped 24 young snapping turtles by getting them away from a road. Brunner says the turtles were released into Island Lake in Gresham.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, turtles nest and lay eggs from late May to early July. The eggs take anywhere from two to four months to hatch, depending on the species.
You can find more information on helping turtles cross the road through the Wisconsin Turtle Conservation Program.
