Milwaukee Police Department K-9 Unit

The Milwaukee Police K9 Unit has been serving the citizens of Milwaukee since 2007. The unit currently has nine K9 teams. The K9s are German Shepherds from Germany and are trained for suspect apprehension, drugs and firearm detection. They have two K9’s who are certified in explosive detection.

Purchasing and training these K9s is costly. All dogs live at home with their handler and family. If you'd like to support the K-9 Unit and its mission of protecting the citizens of Milwaukee, you're encouraged to donate to The Milwaukee Police K9 Foundation, which is entirely independent of the Milwaukee Police Department. The Foundation works in cooperation with the K9 Unit to identify and provide special needs that are unable to be funded through the city’s budget. Email MPDK9FOUNDATION@GMAIL.COM for more information on the Foundation and how you can help.

Members of the MPD K-9 Unit will be in attendance at the Be Well Milwaukee Expo, will be available for meet-and-greets with the partners, and will be performing a training demonstration. **Please note: the suspect apprehension portion of the demonstration may be too intense for young attendees. Parental discretion is advised.
