Titans of the Classic 8 did battle on the gridiron on Week 3 of the 2016 season of Badger Max Thursday Night Lights presented by Northwest Surgery Center as the Waukesha West Wolverines faced off with the Muskego Warriors on Thursday, September 1st. The stands were overflowing, as spectators lined the field fence line in anticipation of night's contest between the conference rivals. The excitement level carried through with those viewing at home.
The communities were well represented for both teams, as pride for their schools and many programs were made evident on and offsite by the students, parents, and staff, alike. The Waukesha Salvation Army chapter was on hand collecting food and monetary donations from the supportive fans, and dedicated volunteer of 19 years, Dick Klingbeil, was honored on site on and within the on air broadcast for his efforts as a food collection driver and contributions to the mission of "Doing the Most Good."
As was anticipated, the teams were well matched and provided a game to remember on the opening night of Conference Play. Waukesha West opened the scoring as the teams traded 3-yard touchdown runs in the first quarter. Both teams took to the air in the second quarter, each completing touchdown receptions. Waukesha West was successful on a 2-point conversion attempt, leaving the score knotted at 14-all heading into the half. The Wolverines scored on a 28-yard touchdown run to open the scoring in the second half, but the Warriors produced a 6-yard TD run of their own to take a 21-20 lead into the fourth quarter. Trailing 20-24 after a successful 27-yd field goal attempt by Muskego, Waukesha West wouldn't quit, and put together a game winning drive to end regulation. To the home team fans' dismay, the game ended in a bit of controversy when an Officials' Injury Timeout was called with the ball inside the 1-yard line and the Wolverines stopped on third-and-goal without a timeout to call. The stoppage allowed a regroup and QB sneak touchdown dive as time expired, giving Waukesha West the 26-24 victory over the Warriors. FINAL SCORE: Waukesha West Wolverines 26 - Muskego Warriors 24
