It was a Southern Lakes Conference match-up for Week 4 of the 2016 season of Badger Max Thursday Night Lights presented by Northwest Surgery Center as the Burlington Demons and Waterford Union Wolverines prepared to do battle on Thursday, September 8th. An excited crowd complete with enthusiastic, decked-out student sections filled the stands on a warm fall evening.
The crowd proudly roared as the color guard was once again presented by members of the United States Army, and the game ball was delivered by the United States Marine Corps before the game. The local Salvation Army chapter was on hand collecting food and monetary donations from the supportive fans, and dedicated volunteer Eric Ellis was honored on site and within the on air broadcast for his efforts and contributions to the mission of "Doing the Most Good" in his community. The locals' pride and reverence for those who choose to serve their communities and country were highlighted by one attendee's account of a random act of kindness and respect he/she witnessed at the game.
The game turned into a one-sided affair as the Burlington Demons lacked sizzle, and couldn't gain any momentum during the contest in spite of giving a solid effort throughout the night. Despite starting the scoring through the air with a 7-yard touchdown reception midway through the first quarter, the Wolverines dug their claws in and kept the ball on the ground for the majority of the game. The offensive line provided thunderous blocks all night, leading to two touchdowns in the second quarter, and an additional two scoring drives in the second half. Burlington forced and recovered a fumble in the fourth, but had a pass attempt intercepted on the first play of their possession, killing any hopes of a comeback.
FINAL SCORE: Waterford Union Wolverines 35 - Burlington Demons 0
