Week four of the 2017 season of U.S. Cellular Thursday Night Lights presented by Northwest Surgery Center featured an interconference showdown between the Greater Metro and Classic 8 Conferences as the Germantown Warhawks clashed with the Waukesha West Wolverines on Thursday, September 7th. The My24 Sports Team, our sponsorship partners, and fans of all ages packed the stands on a beautiful night for football. Members of the United States Army presented the Color Guard, and the fourth game of the season got officially underway.
The Salvation Army had barrels on site to collect book donations for their drive (with a goal of collecting 10,000 books) from supportive fans, and they were left filled to the brim! Whether or not you'll be in attendance at a U.S. Cellular Thursday Night Lights broadcast game this season, you can donate new books to support The Salvation Army's goal of providing area children books this holiday season.
A fairly uneventful first quarter saw Waukesha West score quickly thanks to a 1-yard quarterback keeper run on the first possession of the game. Both teams' defenses would force a turnover on downs to keep the score Wolverines 7 - Warhawks 0 heading into the second quarter of play. Waukesha West took over the game, adding three scoring drives in the period. Two rushing touchdowns (20- & 11-yards) and one through the air for 8-yards would put the Wolverines up 28-0, with an interception in the end zone to end the half preventing a running clock heading into the second half.
At halftime, one lucky fan was chosen to take the field with a chance to successfully complete a 15-yard pass through a target to win a $10,000 home makeover package from Window Depot of Milwaukee. Unfortunately, the throw would fall short, but another fan will get a new game opportunity each week for the rest of the season!
The Warhawks would fail to rally in the second half, plagued by dropped passes, offensive series stopped by the Wolverines defensive unit on downs, and turning the ball over three times via interception throughout the game. With under 4 minutes to play in the third period, Waukesha West would return their final drive-killing interception of the game 97-yards to the Warhawks' 1-yard line. The ensuing 1-yard TD run would activate the running clock rule for the rest of the game. Waukesha West also connected on a 33-yard touchdown pass in the third, and add a 13-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth to put the game out of reach. FINAL: Waukesha West Wolverines 48 - Germantown Warhawks 0
