Classic Eight and Greater Metro Conferences once again did battle on the gridiron in week two of the 2018 season of Heiser Automotive Group Thursday Night Lights presented by U.S. Cellular as the Oconomowoc Raccoons visited the Brookfield Central Lancers on Thursday, August 23rd. The My24 Sports Team, our sponsorship partners, and fans of all ages enjoyed a stellar summer evening perfect for a night of high school football.
The Salvation Army and My24 Sports continued our season-long food drive campaign to combat local hunger with help from the supportive fans who brought non-perishable food donations to the game. Fans are encouraged to bring donations to any TNL game this season. Whether or not you'll be in attendance at a Heiser Automotive Group Thursday Night Lights broadcast game this season, you can make monetary donations or learn more about volunteer opportunities by visiting SAMilwaukee.org. Brookfield Central High School's Red Kettle Club was honored on site and within the on air broadcast for its year-round volunteer efforts in "Doing the Most Good" via monetary and toy drive donation collections, kettle maintenance, and ringing bells during the busy holiday season.
The crowd took a moment to recognize and honor members of the United States Army who were in attendance, Brookfield Central Junior Kyle Lee opened the festivities with a stellar rendition of the National Anthem on his saxophone, and the second game of the season got officially underway.
After Oconomowoc went three-and-out on the first possession of the game, Brookfield Central exploded onto the scene thanks to an 80 yard touchdown run on the Lancers' first play from scrimmage. The Raccoons shook off the defensive breakdown and answered the challenge with their own 36 yard touchdown reception and converted PAT to tie things up 7-7 early in the first quarter. Brookfield Central would stand their ground and return the ensuing kick-off to their own 49-yard line before breaking a 51 yard touchdown run on just their second offensive play of the night. After a second three-and-out series for Oconomowoc, the Lancers would find the end zone again, this time connecting on a 17 yard pass. They would miss the point-after attempt, resulting in a 20-7 lead. Still in the eventful first quarter of play, the Raccoons would punt, but intercept a pass to stop the Lancers' drive. Brookfield Central's defense would end Oconomowoc's drive with a sack on 4th & 8, then score on a 37 yard touchdown run by the quarterback to start off the second quarter. The teams would trade fumbles, and the Lancers would add two touchdown runs before the end of the half, taking a commanding 41-7 lead into the second half of play. The Raccoons connected on a 90 yard touchdown pass late in the second, but it was nullified by a penalty flag, killing their attempt to build momentum.
Despite the crowd's attempts to keep spirits high, Oconomowoc never found an offensive rhythm in the second half, and a 27 yard field goal by the Lancers would invoke the running clock rule with just over eight minutes to play in the third quarter.
A final 8 yard touchdown scamper would end the game's scoring as Brookfield Central closed out a dominant performance. FINAL SCORE: Brookfield Central Lancers 51 - Oconomowoc Raccoons 7
