Week six of the 2018 season of Heiser Automotive Group Thursday Night Lights presented by U.S. Cellular showcased a Greater Metro Conference showdown as the Menomonee Falls Indians visited the Hamilton Chargers on Thursday, September 20th. The My24 Sports Team, our sponsorship partners, and fans of all ages gathered for a humid, overcast fall evening of high school football.
The Salvation Army and My24 Sports continued our season-long food drive campaign to combat local hunger with barrels to collect non-perishable food donations at the game. Fans are encouraged to bring donations to any TNL game this season. Whether or not you'll be in attendance at a Heiser Automotive Group Thursday Night Lights broadcast game this season, you can make monetary donations or learn more about volunteer opportunities by visiting SAMilwaukee.org, or by simply texting "TNL" to 41444 (Message & Data Rates may apply). Media Relations Director Amy Burke was honored on site and within the on air broadcast for her ongoing efforts in spreading The Salvation Army's mission of "Doing the Most Good" throughout the region's communities.
The crowd took a moment to recognize and honor members of the United States Army who were in attendance and presented the Color Guard, Blue Lamp Records Recording Artist Eric Look and Vocalist Michele McCormack performed a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, and the sixth game of the season was ready to official begin.
Hamilton set the tone for the night early in the game as the Chargers abruptly ended Menomonee Falls' opening drive with a 60 yd pick 6 interception to quickly take a 7-0 lead. Despite converting on a fake punt on 4th & 1 on their next possession, the Chargers lost a fumble to the Indians' defense late in the first quarter. The offense failed to capitalize on the turnover and the first period of play would end with another Menomonee Falls punt. Hamilton connected on a 50 yd reception and used a pass interference penalty on the Indians in the end zone to set up a 1 yd quarterback keeper touchdown run, giving Hamilton a 14-0 lead. Menomonee Falls' best effort to gain momentum before halftime ended with a Chargers interception in the end zone on a 4th & 12 pass attempt. After trading punts, the Chargers converted a 44 yd field goal to end the half with a 17-0 lead.
Hamilton came flying out of the gate to start the second half, combining a kick-off return to midfield and a 50 yd touchdown run on a one-play drive to take a 24 point lead within the first minute of the third quarter. Menomonee Falls' offensive unit continued to struggle in the third period of play as the defense stood their ground against Hamilton's advances. The Indians recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass in the end zone to deny the Chargers' offense, but a block in the back penalty brought the interception return back from the 44-yard line to the 8. Menomonee Falls started a promising drive to begin the fourth quarter, using a 34 yd pass reception and 21 yd run to move into Charger's territory. Hamilton's defense turned them away with their second interception of the game to reclaim the momentum of the game. The Indians' last hope was denied with a defended pass on a 4th down play, securing the victory for the Chargers. FINAL SCORE: Hamilton Chargers 24 - Menomonee Falls Indians 0
